Sizing Guide

Press-On Nail Sizing Guide

Sizing is the single biggest reason a press-on set fails. Not the glue. Not the artwork. Not the brand. Sizing. A press-on half a millimeter too wide creates a side gap that traps water, breaks the bond, and lifts by day three.

This guide walks through two measuring methods, the size chart that actually fits, and what to do when you're between sizes. Five minutes once, and every future Handora order just works.

2 Ways to Measure Your Nails Accurately

Method 1: Paper Strip + Ruler (Most Accurate)

  1. Cut a paper strip about 1 cm wide
  2. Wrap the strip across the widest part of your natural nail (one-third up from cuticle, NOT at the tip)
  3. Mark where the strip meets the other side with a pencil
  4. Lay the strip flat against a ruler, measure in millimeters
  5. Record the number for each finger

Most people are surprised that their fingers aren't symmetric. Your thumb and ring are often very different sizes.

Method 2: Flexible Measuring Tape

Faster, slightly less accurate. Use cloth or plastic tape. Hold across the widest part following the natural curve. Do not flatten the curve — tape should hug the convex shape. Read in millimeters.

Size Chart (XS, S, M, L)

Handora uses 12+ sizes per nail position across XS, S, M, L presets:

  • XS: 8–10 mm width
  • S: 10–12 mm width
  • M: 12–14 mm width
  • L: 14–16 mm width

If your measurements skew outside 8–16 mm or you have unusual asymmetry, use our custom press-on order for a sized-to-you set.

Per-Finger Averages (Most People Don't Realize)

  • Thumb: 14–18 mm (usually largest)
  • Index: 12–15 mm
  • Middle: 11–14 mm
  • Ring: 10–13 mm
  • Pinky: 8–11 mm (usually smallest)

Common assumption: fingers gradually get smaller. Reality: most people have a wide thumb, slightly narrower index, intermediate middle and ring, much narrower pinky.

Common Sizing Mistakes

Flattening the curve. Undermeasures by 1–2 mm. Always measure with tape hugging the natural nail curve.

Measuring at the tip. Widest point is one-third up from cuticle, not at the free edge.

Ignoring asymmetry. Left vs right hand. Thumb vs pinky. Measure each finger individually.

Choosing by 'feel.' Drugstore memory isn't accurate for craft brands. Measure fresh.

What If You're Between Sizes?

Always go down. A slightly smaller press-on flexes onto the nail and conforms. An oversized press-on creates a side gap and lifts.

If a size is 1 mm too small, you can file the side wall of the press-on slightly with a fine-grit file before applying. 30-second adjustment, perfect fit.
